This week sees the launch of the new international standard for health and safety, ISO45001:2018.
ISO45001 aims to set guidelines to improve the workplace health and safety performances in all types of workplaces.
It is hoped that the new standard will help reduce accidents and improve safety standards for workers in all sectors of the economy, both in the UK and overseas.
ISO45001 aligns very well with other international standards such as ISO9001 and ISO14001. All these standards are based on the Plan-Do-Check-Act quality model and adopt the key management system methods such as internal audits, management review, data analysis and close out of non-conformities.
ISO45001 will replace OHSAS18001, organisations will have up to three years to upgrade to the new standard.
ISO45001 really provides a great opportunity for organisations to develop a robust management system that will help manage risk and improve safety performance.
